Ike Stubblefield Joins Gov’t Mule In Atlanta

Atlanta’s Coca-Cola Roxy Theatre hosted a Gov’t Mule concert Sunday night. The performance featured the quartet welcoming keyboardist Ike Stubblefield to sit-in during the second set and again for the evening’s encore.
Frontman Warren Haynes opened the show with “Traveling Tune” from Mule’s recently issued studio album Revolution Come .. Revolution Go. The first set also saw cuts from the LP including “Pressure Under Fire” and the closing pairing of the title track and “Stone Cold Rage.” Set one also saw a take on “Game Face” with The Allman Brothers Band’s “Mountain Jam” played within, a cover of Bob Marley’s “Lively Up Yourself,” along with favorites like “Beautifully Broken.”
Set two opened with the Revolution Come .. Revolution Go single “Sarah, Surrender” and closed out with the ending of the show starting “Traveling Tune.” Midway into the set Stubblefield emerged perform on the Hammond B3 organ on a “Freeway Jam” that included elements of The Allmans’ “Les Brers In A Minor.” The second half also saw Jimi Hendrix’s “If 6 Was 9” worked into “Larger Than Life,” The Beatles “She Said, Said Said” > “Tomorrow Never Knows,” along with “Mr. Man,” “World Boss” and others. Stubblefield returned to the stage with Mule for collaborative encore performance of the blues classic “Feel Like Breaking Up Somebody’s Home.” Watch a few audience-shot video clips from last night’s show in Atlanta below:
