Pianist Holly Bowling worked a cover of “Hurt” by Nine Inch Nails into her usual mix of Phish and Grateful Dead covers during a Live At Home livestream set on Thursday night. Holly performed for 90 minutes and the livestream replay can be viewed below.
Bowling kicked off last night’s performance with a drawn-out version of Phish’s “It’s Ice.” She followed with a “Lost Sailor” that gave way to “Scents & Subtle Sounds” after nearly 15 minutes and time spent playing strings inside the piano. Holly continued to make full use of the inside of the instrument by finger tapping strings during “Scents” before performing the haunted “Hurt,” marking her first take on the song in well over two years.

The gorgeous and eerie “Hurt” came ahead of the Grateful Dead ballad “Wharf Rat.” Holly painted outside the lines in providing the unusual take on the Garcia/Hunter classic before performing “Bliss,” an instrumental featured on Phish’s 1996 album Billy Breathes. Bowling finished the set with the “Saint Of Circumstance” that was hinted at by the performance of “Lost Sailor” earlier in the evening. Watch Holly Bowling’s Thursday night set below:
