“Western North Carolina is really, really hurting, y’all,” wrote M.C. Taylor on Hiss Golden Messenger’s Instagram page yesterday when heralding the album’s release. “We don’t even know the half yet, and I’m glad to be able to help.”
BeLoved Asheville is devoted to providing aid to those in need in and around Asheville, North Carolina, which was devastated by Hurricane Helene and its aftermath. The organization is currently on the front lines distributing food, water and other critical supplies as over 100,000 residents in the area were affected by the storm.
Sanctuary Songs: Live in Omaha, NE, December 1, 2023 was recorded on the HMRU (Hiss Mobile Recording Unit) by Luc Suer. “We knew that this performance was special when we stepped off the stage that night and we earmarked it for some kind of release when the tour ended,” Taylor noted. “Once back at home in North Carolina, Chris Boerner mixed and mastered ‘Sanctuary Songs’ at his studio, and I put it on the shelf, waiting for the right time to send it out into the world. The right time is now.”
