Famed multi-instrumentalist Steve Winwood was born in Handsworth, England on this date in 1948. Winwood first achieved fame as a teenager when he joined the Spencer Davis Group. He went on to form Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame act Traffic and scored a number of hits as a solo artist in the ’80s. A 2010 documentary from the BBC titled English Soul does a fantastic job of profiling Steve Winwood.
Steve Winwood has seen and done nearly all over the course of 50+ year career. English Soul shows the guitarist/keyboardist’s progression from childhood prodigy to veteran master and discusses each phase of his career including a portion on the importance of Traffic. Winwood gave his approval to the project and is interviewed for the film along with Bob Weir, Mickey Hart, Eric Clapton, Paul Rodgers, Paul Jones, Paul Weller, Muff Winwood and Dave Mason.
