Accomplished and talented musician Beck turns 45 years old today. The man who burst onto the scene in 1994 has formulated a highly successful and enigmatic career spanning over two decades and millions in record sales. Never afraid to take risks, his ever-evolving style and approach to creating music is admirable, and today on his birthday we’re looking back on the Record Club recording sessions he produced.

Back in 2009 Beck assembled an array of talented musicians to join him in the studio to record an unrehearsed complete cover of an album in a single day. The daily sessions resulted in complete recordings of The Velvet Underground & Nico by The Velvet Underground, Songs of Leonard Cohen by Leonard Cohen, Oar by Skip Spence, Kick by INXS and Yanni Live at the Acropolis by Yanni. Among those who participated in the recordings were members of Wilco, MGMT, Tortoise, Liars, Feist, St. Vincent, Nigel Godrich, Devendra Banhart and more. Below we’ve assembled a highlight from each of the five recording sessions.
