JJ Jungle Statement

In the middle of October, Mike Dillon, who has played with lots of baddass musicians including Les Claypool, Ani Defranko, mad saxophone genius Skerik, New Orleans drummer Stanton Moore, and The Funky One, George Porter Jr. gave me a call on my cell phone.

“Hey Dr. J, whats up?”

That’s what he likes to call me, even though I’m 6′ tall on my tippy toes, and could never palm much less slam a basketball, unless the basketball was one of those fuzzy nerf balls, and the basketball rim was on the top of my door like back in college, and even then that might be stretching it.

“What are you doing in February? You want to go on tour?”

I immediately felt my heart rate quicken, and a giddy smile stretch across my face.

Mike was talking about going out on Snowboard Tour.

Once again, it’s that time of the year when this group of land pirates known as the Hairy Apes BMX grab our instruments and snowboards, and head off to rage the white capped mountains during the day and rock out as hard as we can through the night.

This kind of touring is not for the feint of heart. Many a band has given up at the thought of crossing a snowy mountain pass or loading their instruments and gear up icy stairs in frigid conditions.

But for me, it’s all worth it. Once I’m on that lift, and heading to the top of a mountain, all of my problems seem to vanish into the horizon, soon to be replaced by the clean sound of snow underneath my board.

We will ride until we are exhausted. And then we’ll summon up all the energy inside of us so that we can live up to our name and provide a true Butt Movin’ Experience.

So, at this point you might be asking yourself, “Why should I care? What does this band of Hairy Primates have to do with me?”

Good question.

The truth is, I don’t have any logical reason to tell you this except for some shameless self promotion, and to invite you to come along with us on the journey.

If you feel like getting crazy, watching a bunch of freaks bang out such classic tunes as “I’m Gonna Find a Hundred Bucks on the Ground”, “Sardines and Pork and Beans,” and “Jimmy Hat” (I’m still waiting on my royalty check from Trojan for that last one), then come on down and party with us at one or more of the shows.

Better yet, If you’re REALLY want to have a good time, come party with us till they kick us out of the club, and then get up at the butt crack of dawn and come party with us on the mountain, and experience for yourself why we love the Snowboard Tour so much (especially if you are one of those really cool guys that can get us free lift tickets :).

Our shows really are lots of fun, especially if you like dancing like a banshee, lude and crude behavior, and even some occasional nudity.

Come on out and party with us, and tell them that JJ Jungle sent you.

JJ Jungle is an active member of Hairy Apes BMX, Mike Dillon’s Go-Go Jungle, and JJ and The Dynamites. Visit here to get a bunch of super awesome cool FREE stuff.
