The Greyboy Allstars shared official video featuring a live performance of “Turnip’s Big Move.” The footage was captured at San Francisco’s Maritime Hall on November 8, 1996 with the rest of the hour-long set available in both audio and video formats via nugs.net.

The studio version of “Turnip’s Big Move” appears on A Town Called Earth, The Greyboy Allstars’ acclaimed 1997 sophomore studio album. In honor of the LP’s 25th anniversary, the long out-of-print record will be reissued as A Town Called Earth: The Immortal Edition through the group’s Knowledge Room Recordings imprint in partnership with Light In The Attic. Due out this Friday, September 16, the reissue marks the first time the album will be available on vinyl and on digital streaming services.

The band — consisting of saxophonist Karl Denson, keyboardist Robert Walter, guitarist Elgin Park (aka Mike Andrews), bassist Chris Stillwell and drummer Zak Najor — initially put out A Town Called Earth three years after the release of their debut album, West Coast Boogaloo. GBA spent most of the time in between records touring hard and the Maritime Hall show is an example of the sound they developed in time for their second LP.

“We really weren’t even a band for but a few weeks when we recorded West Coast Boogaloo,” explained Elgin Park. “By the time we recorded A Town Called Earth we had gelled and formed our own individual perspectives within the music. I think the source of inspiration was in the same universe, but our confidence was in a completely other place.”
