The JamBase Podcast: Greta Van Fleet’s Josh Kiszka
The frontman discusses the group's Greg Kurstin-produced new album, 'The Battle At Garden's Gate,' and more.
Episode 83 of The JamBase Podcast, a partner of the Osiris Media Network, features an interview with Greta Van Fleet frontman Josh Kiszka. JamBase’s Andy Kahn interviewed the vocalist following the April release of the band’s new album The Battle At Garden’s Gate.
Kiszka and Kahn spoke recently over a video call. Kiszka was in Nashville, where he and his bandmates now call home. He discussed living in Music City during the COVID-19 pandemic and what experiences they have had living within its vibrant musical community.
Much of the interview focused on The Battle At Garden’s Gate, which followed Greta Van Fleet’s debut full-length album, 2018’s Anthem Of The Peaceful Army. Another successful new album, The Battle At Garden’s Gate topped Billboard’s Rock Albums and Hard Rock Albums charts and reached #7 on the Billboard 200 Albums chart..
Kiszka talked about his songwriting process and how the band often works together in the studio to complete songs. Josh discussed the band’s decision to work with renowned producer Greg Kurstin, whose impressive resume includes past work with Paul McCartney, Foo Fighters, Adele, Beck and many others. He detailed working with Greg and how the producer influenced the album, while keeping things light and fun with his notable sense of humor.
Among the other things Josh talked about were the band’s touring plans — which for now includes just a few headlining shows this year — how they dealt with the pandemic over the past year, finding his voice as an early performer and much more.
