Gregg Allman & The Doobie Brothers End Run At SPAC

A run of eight shows featuring Gregg Allman and the came to a close last night at Saratoga Performing Arts Center in Saratoga Springs, New York. The co-bills have included a number of collaborations and there was one more in store for Friday night.

The Gregg Allman Band’s portion of the evening came to a close with a rendition of “Southbound” which Gregg noted was written by Dickey Betts keeping in line with other recent performances. Allman welcomed Doobie Brothers guitarists Pat Simmons and Tom Johnston as well as Little Feat keyboardist Bill Payne to share the stage on the scorching “Southbound.” Payne has been touring with the Doobie Brothers as part of their current tour.

The Doobie Brothers once again focused on hits from the start of their career and also performed “Takin’ It To The Streets” from the Michael McDonald era of the band. Gregg Allman, who just announced a residency in New York City, opens for the Zac Brown Band at HersheyPark Stadium in Hershey, Pennsylvania tonight. The Doobie Brothers team up with The Steve Miller Band at Susquehanna Bank Center in Camden, New Jersey this evening.
