The Atlanta Laid Back Festival stop has been rescheduled for October 29. The lineup will remain the same with the exception of Mother’s Finest replacing the Kevn Kinney Band. Tickets for the May 7th date will be honored on the new show date. “Laid Back Fest in Atlanta was coming up soon and I was getting really excited for it. Was going to be the first one of the five! No better place to start than in my home state. So I’m disappointed that we have to postpone it, but there’s no way I’d want to do it without ZZ Top. Once we’re there, we’ll all be glad we waited,” Gregg Allman said in a statement.
Yesterday, we reported ZZ Top had postponed all dates through May 7 due to an injury sustained to bassist Dusty Hill. ZZ Top were set to perform at Gregg Allman’s Laid Back Festival in Atlanta on May 7 which has now been postponed as well according to the Atlanta Journal Constitution. (Ed. Note: the concert will now take place October 29th with the same lineup except the Kevn Kinney Band will have been replaced by Mother’s Finest.)
Gregg Allman and ZZ Top were set to be joined by Michelle Malone, Blackberry Smoke, Kevn Kinney, StoneRider, Gabriel Kelley and Jaimoe’s Jasssz Band at Lakewood Amphitheatre in Atlanta on May 7. AJC reports “more info on the new date will be announced soon.” (Ed. Note: the concert will now take place October 29th with the same lineup except the Kevn Kinney Band will have been replaced by Mother’s Finest.)
Hill suffered a fractured shoulder ahead of ZZ Top’s ultimately canceled concert at the Lone Star Events Center in Lubbock, Texas on Thursday, April 14. ZZ Top’s manager Carl Stubner described the incident leading to Hill’s injury in the following statement:
Dusty was suited up and ready to go when he tripped on a step while on his way to the stage for the start of Thursday’s show. It was very dark back there and the step – really a half-step – wasn’t lit so there’s no way he could’ve seen it. We found out that others had missed it and stumbled earlier in the day. Maybe some strategic lighting could’ve prevented this, but that’s water under the bridge. What’s important now is that Dusty and his medical team to do what’s necessary for a complete recovery.
Additionally, Hill himself shared a statement which reads:
My physicians told me that this type of injury is usually associated with contact sports. I’m not sure bass-playing qualifies as such but they’re doing their best to get me back in the game as soon as possible. Thanks to everyone for all the good wishes we’ve received. We’re determined to enjoy a speedy recovery and to see you soon!
