Greensky Bluegrass Welcomes Marcus King For Gregg Allman Tribute At Rooster Walk

By Scott Bernstein May 30, 2017 9:30 am PDT

Michigan jamgrass act Greensky Bluegrass performed at the Rooster Walk festival in Martinsville, Virginia on Saturday just hours after the world learned Gregg Allman had died. Greensky Bluegrass fit a tribute to Gregg into their set which featured guest spots from guitarist Marcus King of The Marcus King Band and keyboardist Joey Porter of The Motet.

While Gregg Allman may not have written “One Way Out,” the blues classic became one of his signature songs both during performances with the Allman Brothers Band and his solo groups. Greensky Bluegrass brought out Marcus King to add guitar and vocals to their cover of “One Way Out” early in the Rooster Walk set. King stuck around to contribute to a well-jammed “Don’t Lie.” Later in the set, Greensky was joined by Joey Porter for covers of “Working On A Building” and “Could You Be Loved.” Other highlights included an exploratory “Broke Mountain Breakdown” featuring “Yellow Eyes” in the middle and emotional takes on “Can’t Stop Now” and “Windshield.”
