Greensky Bluegrass offered setlist shenanigans on (Casual) Wednesday at their concert in Dillon, Colorado. The quintet spelled “CASUAL WEDNESDAY” with the first letter of each song played during their two sets at the picturesque Dillon Amphitheater and devoted the second set solely to covers.
GSBG, who return to Red Rocks in Morrison this weekend, kicked off the evening and Colorado run with a first set chock full of originals. Classics “Cold Feet” and “All Four” were split by the title track from 2019’s All For Money as well as “Screams” and “Until I Sing” off their 2022 LP, Stress Dreams to form the majority of last night’s first set. The veteran jamgrass act went on to cap the frame with their take on Joshua Davis’ “Last Winter In The Copper Country.”
The five-piece began their all-covers second set in Dillon by performing Prince’s “When Doves Cry” and Tears For Fears’ “Everybody Wants To Rule The World.” Both were 2022 debuts with the latter last played on Halloween 2020. Greensky then offered a rendition of “Dancing In The Dark” by Bruce Springsteen before pairing The Rolling Stones classic “No Expectations” and the Ween gem “Exactly Where I’m At.”
A set-closing sequence got underway with a take on Bob Marley’s “Stop That Train.” The reggae cover led into Greensky’s first cover of Simple Minds’ “Don’t You (Forget About Me)” since Halloween 2019, which bled into The Allman Brothers Band’s “Ain’t Wastin’ Time No More.” The latter gave way to Bob Dylan’s “You Ain’t Goin Nowhere.”
Greensky nodded to their setlist antics with dobroist Anders Beck leading the day-appropriate “Casual Wednesday” to launch an encore that also included a cover of “Can’t Stop Now” by New Grass Revival. Phish famously started the setlist spelling trend in Colorado during opening night of their first four Labor Day Weekend runs at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park near Denver.
