Lindsay Lou, Joshua Davis and Benny “Burle” Galloway each made guest appearances with Greensky Bluegrass on Thursday during the first day of the band’s Camp Greensky festival. GSBG played two sets and an encore at the event held at Shagbark Farm in Caledonia, Michigan.

Greensky Bluegrass opened their first Camp Greensky 2022 set with a cover of Black Sabbath’s “War Pigs.” The quintet had stuck solely to originals throughout the year until their set at last weekend’s BottleRock Festival, where they performed a take on The Beatles’ “A Day In The Life.” The group’s second cover of 2022 was followed by “Absence Of Reason” from their recently released Stress Dreams album. Classics “I’d Probably Kill You,” “All Four,” “In Control” and “Beauty And Pain” came next.

“In Control” and “Beauty And Pain” were performed with Lindsay Lou on vocals. Lindsay Lou is Camp Greensky’s Artist-at-Large for the weekend. Stress Dreams track “Cut A Tooth” was played sans guests after “Beauty And Pain” and led into Joshua Davis’ guest appearance. Davis, on hand with Steppin’ In It, joined his old friends for their first “Congratulations And Condolences” and a rare “Butcher’s Girl.” GSBG then went at it alone to close the set with “Courage For The Road.”

The five-piece looked to Stress Dreams in getting last night’s second set underway with “New & Improved.” An ie pairing followed via “Just To Lie” and “Run Or Die.” GSBG then covered Townes Van Zandt’s “White Freight Liner Blues” before bringing up longtime friend and collaborator Benny “Burle” Galloway to lead them through his songs “To Say Goodbye, To Be Forgiven” and “What’s Left Of The Night.” The former was played just once previously by Greensky at the Jeff Austin Memorial concert What The Night Brings on November 4, 2019 in Broomfield, Colorado.

Thursday’s second set concluded with “Stress Dreams” and “Living Over.” Greensky then put an exclamation point on the evening by bringing back Lindsay Lou for their “Better Off” encore. Camp Greensky continues today with performances from Dave Bruzza, Luke Winslow King, Wayword Sons, Peter Rowan, Sammy Rae & The Friends and Greensky Bluegrass.
