In a little over a week, an official recording of the most famous Grateful Dead show of all-time will finally be released. The band will issue an 11-disc box set titled May 1977: Get Shown The Light via Rhino Records on May 5. Not only does the set include the first official release of the Dead’s epic May 8, 1977 concert at Barton Hall on the campus of Cornell University in Ithaca, New York, it also features three other shows from May 1977.

The Cornell show will also be released by itself on CD and vinyl and today Relix has premiered remastered audio of the 16-minute cover of Buddy Holly’s “Not Fade Away” from the landmark performance:

“Since the moment that the board tape of Cornell began circulating in the late 1980s, its legend was instantly created,” Lemieux said in a statement. “Although plenty of Grateful Dead shows have been called their ‘best ever,’ in the case of Cornell this statement is rarely contested. It’s long been a dream of everyone in the Grateful Dead organization to release the definitive version of Cornell, drawn from the master tapes, and we’re as thrilled as the fans are that this show is finally being released.”

In addition to Cornell ’77, May 1977: Get Shown The Light will feature the Grateful Dead’s stops in New Haven (May 5, 1977), Boston (May 7, 1977) and Buffalo (May 9, 1977). The new box set and vinyl/CD releases of Cornell ’77 are available for pre-order via Dead.net.
