The 50th anniversary festivities for the Grateful Dead‘s 1975 album Blues for Allah continue with the addition of songs to the interactive Playing In The Band interface. Tracks include Allah standouts “Help on the Way,” “Slipknot,” “Music Never Stopped” and “Franklin’s Tower.”
The interactive Playing In The Band is great for musicians and those who listen alike. For musicians, the instrument you play can be muted so that you can jam along with the band.
Along with the new Blues for Allah tracks, GD has rolled out tracks to celebrate the 50th anniversaries of Wake of the Flood and From the Mars Hotel. There’s also live tracks from the 8/27/72 “Sunshine Daydream” show.
Musicians and listeners will also find that being able to isolate tracks by soloing them is a new and fun way to listen to the music. Highly recommend soloing Phil Lesh’s bassline on “Help on the Way” with his expressive bends. Soloing any of Bob Weir’s rhythm guitar parts is a masterclass in the artform and Jerry Garcia’s leads on “Franklin’s” are sublime. Just go wild with “Slipknot,” hearing what each player is doing on the masterful instrumental is enlightening.
