On April 20 Fathom Events will present a special screening of The Grateful Dead Movie at participating theaters around the country. The one-night-only event is being held in conjunction with the Grateful Dead concert film’s 40th anniversary.

The screenings will include the original 1977 feature-length concert film co-directed by the band’s guitarist Jerry Garcia and Leon Gast that captured portions of the Grateful Dead’s October 1974 five-show, pre-hiatus stand at the Winterland in their hometown of San Francisco. Live performances include such Dead classics as “Dark Star,” “U.S. Blues,” “One More Saturday Night,” “Casey Jones,” “Playing In The Band” and “Sugar Magnolia.”

Screenings will also feature a preview of the extensive Grateful Dead multi-part-documentary Long Strange Trip and a mini-documentary featuring Deadheads sharing memories of the famed Dead show held on May 8, 1977 at Barton Hall at Cornell University, which itself is slated for an upcoming official release.
