The Grateful Dead’s latest installment of their All The Years Live video series features the Phil Lesh-sung “Box Of Rain.” The video was recorded on July 7, 1989 at JFK Stadium in Philadelphia. A 2010 release, Crimson White & Indigo contains audio and video of the complete concert.
“‘Box Of Rain’s’ return to the live repertoire in 1986 after a 13 year absence was one of the most welcome re-births of a Dead song,” wrote Grateful Dead archivist David Lemieux. “Since its March 20, 1986 return in Hampton, Virginia, ‘Box Of Rain’ was a song that could appear anywhere in the show, sometimes opening the second set (as it does here), sometimes an encore, occasionally ending a first set, random middle of the first set placement, and even an occasional show-opener. Box Of Rain would be the last song the Grateful Dead ever played.”
