Gov’t Mule Welcomes Jeff Young At Return To Mountain Jam

Warren Haynes helped found the Mountain Jam music festival in 2005 and performed at the event every year through 2016. The last two years, organizers went in a different direction, but this year they got “back to the jam” at the event’s new home of Bethel Woods in Bethel, New York. “Back to the jam” included multiple performances from Haynes’ Gov’t Mule starting with a set on Friday night that featured a guest spot from famed keyboardist Jeff Young.

Young, a frequent Mule collaborator — whose resume includes work with Jackson Browne, Steely Dan & Donald Fagen, Sting, Tracy Chapman and Keb Mo — emerged at the end of the set to contribute to “Fallen Down” and “Soulshine.” The former featured a jam on the Grateful Dead’s “The Other One,” while the latter contained an excursion through Van Morrison’s “Tupelo Honey.” Gov’t Mule also fittingly performed “Mountain Jam” in the midst of “Game Face,” played The Allman Brothers Band’s “Dreams,” honored The Staple Singles with a cover of “Hammer & Nails” and mixed classics and tunes from 2017’s Revolution Come .. Revolution Go.
