We’re now 18 shows into Gov’t Mule‘s Smokin’ Mule Tour with Blackberry Smoke and each night has featured a collaborative encore that has included different classic rock covers. Last night the trend continued at Cuthbert Amphitheater in Bend, where the Mule and members of BBS dusted off a pair of Neil Young covers.

After a Blackberry Smoke set that included such classics as “Fire In The Hole,” “Ain’t Got The Blues” and “Holy Ghost,” Warren Haynes & Co. took the stage for an extended set. Mule’s set was heavy on covers such as Tom Waits’ “Goin’ Out West,” “Lucky” by Radiohead and “Get Out Of My Life, Woman” by Allen Toussaint. There were teases and jams in many songs with the Toussaint cover including teases of “Loser,” “Get Up Stand Up” and “Fire On The Mountain,” while the set-closing “Mule” contained hints of “Shakedown Street,” “Getaway,” “Jungle Boogie” and “What Is Hip?”

For the encore, Gov’t Mule returned to the stage with Charlie Starr for a cover of Neil Young’s “Tonight’s The Night.” The quartet hadn’t performed “Tonight’s The Night” since January. Mule also covered Neil’s “Cinnamon Girl” with both Starr and Brandon Still.
