At the start of May, Gov’t Mule announced a new live and concert film directed by Danny Clinch, Bring On The Music – Live At The Capitol Theatre, due out on June 28 through Provogue/Mascot Label Group. Over the last few weeks, the jam act headed by Warren Haynes has previewed the upcoming effort, releasing teases from their run at the historic Port Chester, New York venue on April 27 and 28, 2018. Now, Gov’t Mule has released their take on “Broke Down On The Brazos” from the second set of their final night of the run.
In the audio off the soundtrack, the band expertly works through By A Thread‘s lead single, offering up a heavy, grinding performance of the 2009 track. The nearly nine-minute clip also includes the first part of the song’s following build into “Tributary Jam,” accelerating into a cacophonous improvisation highlighting their longtime keyboardist Danny Louis.

“Broke Down On The Brazos” follows up the recent release of takes on “Life Before Insanity,” “Traveling Tune (Alternate Version)” and “The Man I Want I To Be” from Gov’t Mule’s 2018 Capitol Theatre run. It also comes on the heels of this week’s announcement of a special screening of Bring On The Music – Live At The Capitol Theatre, which is scheduled for June 19 at New York City’s Landmark At 57 West.
