On July 28, 1973 the Grateful Dead, The Band and The Allman Brothers Band performed before an estimated 600,000 at Watkins Glen Grand Prix Raceway in Watkins Glen, New York. Gov’t Mule will honor the Summer Jam at Watkins Glen as its theme for this year’s New Year’s Eve performance at the Beacon Theatre in New York City.
Gov’t Mule’s “The New Year’s Jam” will likely feature covers of material from all three bands. The group’s frontman, Warren Haynes, was a longtime member of The Allman Brothers Band and performed in post-Jerry versions of The Dead. Today’s announcement reveals Mule will be joined by “many very special guests” for the three-set extravaganza that will be announced soon.
