Goose has brought an appreciated burst of young energy to the jam scene in recent years. The band’s guitarist Rick Mitarotonda helped to initiate the next generation of live music fans last week when he performed for and answered questions from 2nd Graders at Meadow Pond Elementary in New York’s Westchester County.
This unusual “gig” was put together by the class’ teacher, Amy Hoaglund, who also happens to be Mitarotonda’s sister. The visit concluded a project for the class’ opinion writing unit. Students were tasked with writing letters to the guitarist listing their favorite Goose song and explaining why. Each of the letters needed to include “an opening sentence, multiple reasons to support their opinions and a closing sentence,” according to a post on the Katonah-Lewisboro School District Facebook page.

“The students also wrote questions for Rick ahead of time,” the note revealed. “They learned that he started his music career in middle school, that his favorite food is sweet potatoes, and that he listened to a lot of Billy Joel and the Eagles when he was their age.”
Rick Mitarotonda played four Goose live staples for the children as per the setlist on El Göose.net (view below). The guitarist started the acoustic performance with “So Ready” and then treated the students to “Arcadia,” “This Old Sea” and “Tumble.” For the closer, the kids were prompted by their teacher to singalong and did a nice job backing Mitarotonda.
