Goose posted official video of “Red Bird” from their recent spring tour opening concert at Roadrunner in Boston last Thursday, March 23. The song written and sung by multi-instrumentalist Peter Anspach came within the evening’s second set and featured a soaring jam.
“Red Bird” was debuted by Goose at San Francisco's Regency Ballroom on January 29, 2022. Seventeen additional versions followed leading up to the band’s Roadrunner debut last week. Phish guitarist Trey Anastasio joined Goose for “Red Bird” in Glens Falls, New York on November 13, 2022 during the quintet’s TABoose Tour with the Trey Anastasio Band.
Guitarist Rick Mitarotonda led the lengthy “Red Bird” improvisation in Boston through both minor and major-key jam spaces. Bassist Trevor Weekz anchored the exploration with a wobbly bass line as Anspach focused on piano. Goose connected on a evil chord structure Mitarotonda shredded to a tasty climax. “Red Bird” emerged out of “Hungersite” at Roadrunner and gave way to a cover of David Gray’s “Please Forgive Me.”
