Goose surprise released a new studio album, Chain Yer Dragon, through No Coincidence Records. The Connecticut-based quartet celebrated by debuting the LP’s pensive second track, “Madalena,” on last night’s episode of The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.

The new 12-song effort marks the band’s second studio album of 2025 following the April release of Everything Must Go. Both records were produced by D. James Goodwin, who was also behind the board for 2022’s Dripfield.

Goose — guitarist Rick Mitarotonda, guitarist/keyboardist Peter Anspach, bassist Trevor Weekz and drummer Cotter Ellis — loaded Chain Yer Dragon with road tested fan favorites including “Hot Love & The Lazy Poet,” “Echo Of A Rose,” “The Empress Of Organos” and “Factory Fiction.” Some of the songs date back to the pre-Goose Vasudo days.

“There’s a world-building component that feels like the driving force of this record,” Mitarotonda said. “Many of these character-driven songs come from a time and place where we were finding our voice musically, and it’s been so gratifying to not only revisit it through the lens of who and where we are now, but to expand on it. These songs have been on a journey, and it feels right for them to finally have a home now.”

“Chain Yer Dragon is certainly its own world,” added Anspach. “One that has existed for a while, but has grown along the way. I think Everything Must Go was in many ways a broader statement album for the band after three wild years. It kind of symbolized that roller coaster, with many different themes and moments that were born in that pressure cooker.”

“I’m proud of the journey these songs have been on, and that they’re finally being realized on a record that feels in line with the spirit of what they always wanted to be,” noted Mitarotonda. “It also gave us an opportunity to work on some new ideas that felt like they belonged to the world these songs inhabit, while also adding some new language. I like to think of these things as a landscape, and that together we can move in any direction at any time — embracing and exploring our past and pushing forward to somewhere new.”

The new record also features the recently released single “Royal,” which has yet to be performed live. Additionally, “Madalena” and the experimental “…..” haven’t been played in concert by Goose. The former saw on-stage action for the first time on Wednesday’s Fallon. Goose previously appeared on the NBC late-night talk show in December of 2022, when they performed “Dripfield” at 30 Rock.

“‘Madalena’ expanded on the world of Chain Yer Dragon in a beautiful way to us, offering a side to the album’s story that wasn’t quite present before,” explained Mitarotonda. “It felt fresh and exciting, and yet in a strange way like it’s been there from the beginning.”
