Gimme Shelter In Place: Midnight North Performs ‘Wind And Roses’
Gimme Shelter In Place is JamBase’s new daily archival video series launched for fans who right now can’t go see live music. Canceled concerts and music festivals due to social distancing and sheltering in place in response to the coronavirus COVID-19 pandemic brought a halt to tours around the globe. We know nothing can truly replace seeing live music in person, but we hope the Gimme Shelter In Place live videos provide a taste of those memorable experiences.
Pullling once again from the archives of JamBase’s Songs Of Their Own Grateful Dead 50th anniversary video series in 2015, today’s footage comes from another session held at Grateful Dead bassist Phil Lesh‘s concert venue and restaurant Terrapin Crossroads in San Rafael, California. Midnight North, the band co-founded by Lesh’s son Grahame Lesh, contributed a cover of “Attics Of My Life” for the Songs Of Their Own project. While “Attics” turned out to be the finale at the final Fare Thee Well concert in Chicago, it wasn’t the last song Midnight North played that day at TXR.
Having setup on the floor in the venue’s Grate Room, the band stuck around and allowed us to capture their performance of a few original compositions. Joining Grahame that day at Terrapin Crossroads were Elliott Peck, Connor O’Sullivan and Alex Jordan (who left Midnight North at the end of last year). The foursome worked up an arrangement of “Wind And Roses,” which appeared on their 2015 studio album, Scarlet Skies.
