Full Show Video: Brendan Bayliss & Jeff Austin Revive 30db In Chicago
By Scott Bernstein Dec 21, 2015 • 7:20 am PST

In the later part of the last decade Umphrey’s McGee guitarist Brendan Bayliss and Yonder Mountain String Band mandolin wiz Jeff Austin (Austin since parted ways with YMSB) came together to form 30db. The pair engaged in songwriting sessions about heartbreak they suffered and released the album One Man Show in 2010. Jeff and Brendan played 30db shows sporadically through 2012 and then mothballed the project until Saturday night in Chicago.
Austin and Bayliss treated capacity crowds at The Tonic Room in Chicago on Saturday night to early and late shows marking their first 30db performances since 2012. The duo focused on material from One Man Show such as the title track, “Backbone,” “Susanah,” “Always Up” and “Return Item” along with UM’s “Cut The Cable” and covers “The Good Times Are Killing Me” (Modest Mouse) and “I Used To Love Her” (Guns N’ Roses).
As with past 30db performances, half the fun is in Jeff and Brendan’s banter. The pair discussed their initial songwriting sessions, how much life has changed for the better since they wrote the songs and more at various points of the show. Videographer Charles Izenstark captured the entire early show for our viewing pleasure. Watch how it went down:
