Full Show Audio & Pro-Shot Video: Dead & Company Brings Tour To Camden

Dead & Company is heading for the tail end of their summer tour after a Sunday night visit to BB&T Pavilion in Camden, New Jersey. The six-piece treated a capacity crowd to a night filled with Grateful Dead classics sung by Bob Weir and John Mayer.

Sunday’s first set began with Weir delivering “Feel Like A Stranger” ahead of a Mayer-led “Brown-Eyed Women.” The opening stanza rolled on with “Ramble On Rose” and “They Love Each Other” before the sextet trotted out a couple of blues numbers in the form of “Little Red Rooster” and “Big Boss Man.” A rollicking “Cumberland Blues” came next, while “Casey Jones” brought the first set to a close.

The second set started with a tour debut as Dead & Company played “Iko Iko” for the first time in nearly a year. Bobby handled lead vocals and mixed rhythm guitar work with some shakes of a tambourine. “Deal” provided John Mayer plenty of time to shine and led into the beloved triumvirate “Help On The Way” > “Slipknot!” > “Franklin’s Tower.” The Rhythm Devils then pounded away on their massive rig with the help of jamtronica samples at some points. Next, Mickey Hart headed to The Beam to drone out some notes that marked the beginning of “Space.”

The instrumentalists worked “Space” into “The Wheel.” Dead & Company tends to take “The Wheel” into a reggae groove as they did on Sunday, complete with vocal teases of “Stay” by Maurice Williams. A double dose of Bobby ended the second set with Weir singing the slow-paced ballad “Stella Blue” and the more raucous “Sugar Magnolia.” Dead & Company then brought the evening to a conclusion with a tender “Brokedown Palace” encore.
