Steve Kimock & Friends :: 8.18.17 :: Sweetwater Music Hall :: Mill Valley, CA
Sweetwater Music Hall in Mill Valley, California hosted a trio of Steve Kimock & Friends shows last week. The middle night of the run featured guitarist Steve Kimock joined by his son John Kimock on drums, Dead & Company’s Jeff Chimenti on keyboards, bassist Andy Hess, percussionist Wally Ingram and keyboardist/vocalist Leslie Mendelson. Bob Dylan’s “Babe, It Ain’t No Lie” opened a first set that also saw takes on the Grateful Dead’s “Crazy Fingers,” a rendition of Toots & The Maytals’ “54-46 (Was My Number)” and Mendelson singing “The Maker” by Daniel Lanois. Set two opened with Neil Young’s “Don’t Let It Bring You Down,” followed by Buddy Holly’s “Well … All Right” which led to a lengthy jam. Jimmy Cliff’s “Many Rivers To Cross” and the Dead’s “Brokedown Palace” helped round out the second set and Holly’s “Not Fade Away” was the evening’s encore. Photographer Susan Weiand was at Sweetwater Friday night, view her gallery followed by an audience recording of the show below:
