On Tuesday night, Freekbass and friends presented the first-ever performance of a new project dubbed “The Band Is Bond” at Brooklyn Bowl in New York City. The group’s set featured choice selections of songs from the James Bond films over the past 50 years. Soundboard matrix audio of the performance has surfaced thanks to taper Eric McRoberts.
The band for the set included Freekbass joined by trumpeter/vocalist Jennifer Hartswick, keyboardist Joel “Razor Sharp” Johnson, guitarist/vocalist TSly, tenor saxophonist Ben Walkenhauer and drummer Jyn Yates. In addition, keyboardist Rob Marscher, trombonist Natalie Cressman, drummer Nikki Glaspie and percussionist Rodney Flood each made guest appearances.
The Band Is Bond presented takes on Duran Duran’s “A View To A Kill,” Shirley Bassey’s “Diamonds Are Forever,” Paul McCartney’s “Live And Let Die,” Carly Simon’s “Nobody Does It Better,” Bassey’s “Goldfinger” and more. Freekbass and his crew ended the night with a well-jammed rendition of the “James Bond Theme Song.”
