Full Set Video: Joe Russo’s Almost Dead Go Acoustic With Bob Weir In Oakland
By Andy Kahn Nov 16, 2016 • 10:59 am PST

As reported, on Saturday Grateful Dead tribute act Joe Russo’s Almost Dead held a concert at The Fox Theater in Oakland, California. During an mid-show acoustic mini-set, Bay Area local and Dead guitarist Bob Weir emerged for an extended sit-in.
Assembled during the closing notes of the first set closing “Jack Straw,” the acoustic setup saw drummer Joe Russo on a smaller kit, with Marco Benevento on upright piano, Dave Dreiwitz on upright bassist and Tom Hamilton and Scott Metzger on acoustic guitars. The ensemble began the “unplugged” segment by offering a take on “It Must Have Been The Roses.”
At that point Russo introduced “Mr. Bobby Fucking Weir” who came out with an acoustic guitar to lead a rendering of Bob Dylan’s “A Hard Rain’s A-Gonna Fall.” Weir also handled lead vocals on subsequent acoustic versions of his “Black Throated Wind,” Dylan’s “When I Paint My Masterpiece” and Bobby’s Dead classic “Cassidy” which incorporated part of his “Let It Grow.” The entire acoustic portion of Saturday’s concert was captured by TimeZonerTV and can be viewed below:
