Bob Weir Joins Joe Russo’s Almost Dead In Oakland

Last night Grateful Dead tribute act Joe Russo’s Almost Dead held a concert at The Fox Theater in Oakland. During an acoustic portion of the performance, Dead guitarist Bob Weir emerged to sit-in on a number of songs.

Much like the mini-stage built for JRAD’s recent Brooklyn Bowl run, a stripped down acoustic setup was utilized midway into the first set Saturday night in Oakland. Playing a smaller kit, drummer Joe Russo, with Dave Dreiwitz on upright bassist, Marco Benevento on piano and Tom Hamilton and Scott Metzger on acoustic guitars, opened the “unplugged” portion with “It Must Have Been The Roses.”

At that point Weir came out to join on guitar and vocals on a cover of Bob Dylan’s “A Hard Rain’s A-Gonna Fall.” Subsequent acoustic renditions of “Black Throated Wind,” Dylan’s “When I Paint My Masterpiece” and Weir’s “Cassidy” also featured Bobby sitting-in on guitar and vocals to close out the first half of the night.

Below is audience-captured footage of “A Hard Rain’s A-Gonna Fall” and “Black-Throated Wind” posted by Ted Silverman, watch:
