By Scott Bernstein Jan 15, 2018 • 11:50 am PST
As reported, Montana jamgrass act The Lil Smokies ended 2017 by opening for Fruition in Portland, Oregon. A recording of The Lil’ Smokies’ stellar New Year’s Eve set has surfaced and can be streamed below.
The five-piece had about an hour to impress the crowd at the Crystal Ballroom in Portland, Oregon and made great use of the time. Included within was a stunning rendition of The Smokies’ beautiful original “California” as well as other impressive material written by the band including “Feathers,” “Tooth Fairy” and “Miss Marie.” Dobroist Andy Dunnigan & Co. also showed off their propensity to turn rock songs into string band covers. On New Year’s Eve, The Lil’ Smokies played Naked Eyes’ beloved ’80s classic “Always Something There To Remind Me,” Dawes’ “When My Time Comes” and a well-jammed version of Elton John’s “Rocket Man” that featured teases of “Auld Lang Syne.”
