On Wednesday night, guitarist Mickey “Dean Ween” Melchiondo brought a version of his The Dean Ween Group project to the Howlin’ Wolf in New Orleans for a performance as part of this year’s Megalomaniacs Ball. A soundboard matrix recording of the Dean Ween Group set in NOLA, the band’s first performance of the year, has surfaced.

Deaner was joined by his Ween band mates Dave Dreiwitz on bass and Glenn McClelland on keyboards in New Orleans as well as guitarists Scott Rednor and Bill Fowler and drummer Ray Kubian. The Dean Ween Group set began with the instrumental “Dickie Betts” which was followed by “Pandy Fackler” off Ween’s White Pepper album. Melchiondo and his band continued on with “Doo Doo Chaser” and “Mercedes Benz,” a song Deaner noted will be on his new album due later this year. Another DWG original, “Garry,” came next ahead of a cover of Jimi Hendrix’s “Are You Experienced.” Next up was another DWG song “Exercise Man” before Deaner and his band crushed “Tear For Eddie.” Ween rarity “Rift” ended the main set. The Dean Ween Group was then joined by Mike Dillon for a cover of Miles Davis’s “Sivad.”
