Free Download: Pigeons Playing Ping Pong Share Official DisNYE Recording

Baltimore electro-funk act Pigeons Playing Ping Pong presented a Disney-themed New Year’s Eve performance at the Madison Theater in Covington, Kentucky on December 31. The quartet has shared official audio of the entire concert as a free download via Bandcamp.

Pigeons mixed originals with fun covers and a bevy of tunes from Disney films. The band opened with a “Circle Of Life” intro from The Lion King. Later in the first set, PPPP worked “The Lion Sleeps Tonight” by The Tokens within “Walk Outside.” Other highlights from the Lion King-heavy opening stanza included “Hakuna Matata” > “Time To Ride” and “Somethin’ For Ya” into “I Just Can’t Wait To Be King.”

Sunday’s second set began with Pigeons’ “Too Long” and “Poseidon,” both off the group’s recently released Pizazz LP. The foursome led a countdown to 2018 within “Poseidon” as well as the traditional “Auld Lang Syne,” Aladdin’s “A Whole New World” and Steppenwolf’s “Magic Carpet Ride.” From there, Pigeons Playing Ping Pong laid down a wild “Horizon” > “I Wanna Be Like You” > “Bare Necessities” > “I Wanna Be Like You” > “Horizon” > “When You Wish Upon A Star” sequence.

“Dawn A New Day” was next along with “Skipjack” and The Lion King’s “Can You Feel The Love Tonight.” The DisNYE fun continued with “Colors Of The Wind” from Pocahontas being performed within “Schwanthem” and “The Liquid.” For the encore, Pigeons treated fans to “Couldn’t We All,” along with the “Mickey Mouse Clubhouse Theme Song” and a “Zydeko” finale featuring “Tale As Old As Time” from Beauty & The Beast in the middle of the original.
