Southern Soul Assembly :: 3.1.17
:: Variety Playhouse :: Atlanta

The Southern Soul Assembly Tour was put together in 2014 as an “artist-in-the-round” performance series featuring Anders Osborne, Marc Broussard, JJ Grey and Luther Dickinson. A one-time tour has turned into numerous outings including this year’s Southern Soul Assembly Tour which stopped at Variety Playhouse in Atlanta on Wednesday. Each performer took turns leading the troupe with Luther up front for such songs as “Shake,” “Moonshine” and “Up Over Yonder,” while Anders presented the fitting “Ash Wednesday Blues” and “Coming Down,” among other tunes. JJ’s time in the spotlight saw him sing such classics as “Slow Hot & Sweaty,” “Ol’ Glory” and “Lochloosa,” and Broussard belted the “Don’t Be Afraid To Call Me” opener, his gem “Home” and others.
