Foo Fighters Album Due This Fall Along With HBO Series

HBO has officially announced details of the Dave Grohl-directed HBO series we reported on yesterday. Turns out the as-of-yet-untitled series documents the eight-city journey the Foo Fighters embarked upon to create their eighth studio album. The Foos will release the as-of-yet-untitled album this fall.

Grohl has directed the HBO series in which “the band taps into the musical heritage and cultural fabric of eight cities – Chicago, Austin, Nashville, Los Angeles, Seattle, New Orleans, Washington, D.C. and New York – basing themselves at a legendary studio integral to the unique history and character of each location.” The Foo Fighters recorded one song at each location with each song featuring “local legends” sitting in. Dave also came up with an inventive way to write lyrics for the album, as he “held off on putting down words until the last day of each session in order to be inspired by the experiences, interviews and personalities that became part of the process,” according to a press release.

“Dave’s heartfelt passion for this project is contagious, and his talent as a musician and filmmaker is undeniable,” said Michael Lombardo, president, HBO Programming in a statement. “We are excited to Go On this journey with him and Foo Fighters for this insider’s look at how regional music inspired them to create their own new music.”

The first episode of the new series will premiere on the eve of Foo Fighters’s 20th anniversary this fall.
