Watch The Flatlanders Perform ‘I Had My Hopes Up High’ For ‘Austin City Limits’ Joe Ely Tribute
The Season 48 ACL Hall Of Fame salute finale premieres this weekend on PBS.

PBS will premiere the Austin City Limits Season 48 finale episode this weekend featuring an ACL Hall Of Fame salute to Texas troubadour Joe Ely. A preview clip of the pioneering music legend performing “I Had My Hopes Up High” with his band The Flatlanders premieres exclusively below.
Ely, an Amarillo native, was accompanied by fellow Lone Star musicians and his Flatlanders bandmates Butch Hancock and Jimmie Dale for the ACL performance. Additional musicians onstage at the Moody Theater were longtime Joe Ely Band members, Lloyd Maines, David Grissom, Davis McLarty and Jimmy Pettit.

“I Had My Hopes Up High,” was the lead track on Ely’s 1977 debut album. The song was also the first performed by Ely when he made his ACL debut in 1980.
The ACL Hall of Fame salute to Joe Ely episode, which broadcasts on Saturday, February 25 on PBS (check local listings), also features tributes to Ely performed by renowned singer-songwriter Rodney Crowell and ACL Hall of Famer Marcia Ball.
