Austin City Limits will devote its entire hour-long episode premiering tomorrow, Saturday, February 4 to a career-spanning appearance by Pavement. The veteran Northern California band’s performance of “Painted Soldiers” premieres exclusively here in advance of the episode’s broadcast.

Fronted by guitarist Stephen Malkmus, Pavement’s lineup includes guitarist Scott “Spiral Stairs” Kannberg, bassist Mark Ibold, percussionist Bob Nastanovich and drummer Steve West. The 15-song ACL performance saw the band pull from their 1992 debut album, Slanted And Enchanted (“Summer Babe”), as well as 1994’s Crooked Rain, Crooked Rain (“Range Life”), 1995’s Wowee Zowee (“Grounded”), 1997 Brighten The Corners (“Embassy Row”) and 1999’s Terror Twilight (“Spit on a Stranger”). Pavement broke up in 1999, reforming for reunion tours in 2010 and again in 2022 for their 30th anniversary.

Pavement’s Austin City Limits episode airs on Saturday, February 4 at 7 p.m. CT/8 p.m. ET on PBS as part of the series’ 48th Season. Check local listings.
