Austin’s own Adrian Quesada returns to Austin City Limits for the Season 48 episode airing on PBS tomorrow (Saturday, January 21). Quesada makes his solo debut with a set of songs from his 2022 Spanish-language album, Boleros Psicodélicos. Performances of all 12 tracks from the LP are featured in the hour including a take “Ídolo” with vocalist Angélica Garcia, footage of which is exclusively premiered by JamBase below.

The taping at Austin’s The Moody Theater marked just the second time Quesada performed the music live in addition to a set at ACL Fest. The Black Pumas co-founder was joined by eight Latin American guest vocalists to recreate Boleros Psicodélicos’ stirring “baladas” live including Garcia, Puerto Rico’s iLe, Mexico City’s Girl Ultra, Argentina’s Natalia Clavier, Guatemala’s Tita and others. Quesada was backed by a nine-piece band at The Moody Theater.

Boleros Psicodélicos, which arrived last June, pays tribute to the psychedelic Latin love songs or “baladas” that came to prominence starting in the late 1960s. Quesada poured his passion into the project with the set of originals in balada style along with covers of such songs as La Lupe’s “Puedes Decir De Mí” and Jeanette’s “El Muchacho De Los Ojos Tristes.”

Check local PBS listings for region-specific airtimes to watch the premiere or stream the episode at PBS.org after the initial broadcast.

“Honestly, this is one of the most beautifully staged and emotionally charged shows we’ve ever presented,” explained ACL executive producer Terry Lickona. “With Latin music’s popularity exploding around the globe, Austin’s own Adrian Quesada has curated a unique mix of singers reimagining one of the most classic genres of Latin music – the bolero. It’s a mesmerizing hour!”
