Producers AEG Presents debuted the festival in July of 2012. Firefly ran through 2019 and returned in 2021 after a one-year hiatus due to the pandemic. Bob Dylan, Paul McCartney, Eminem, Mumford & Sons, Foo Fighters, Outkast and Red Hot Chili Peppers are among artists who have headlined Firefly over the years. The 2022 event was held September 22 – 25 featuring Halsey, My Chemical Romance, Green Day, Dua Lipa, Weezer and many others.

“Across 10 events and 11 years, the Firefly Music Festival has given the mid-Atlantic region countless musical memories. Dover Motor Speedway has been proud to co-host Firefly since its inception and we look forward to its return to the Woodlands in 2024,” started a statement from Dover Motor Speedway in response to today’s announcement. “While we look forward to Firefly’s return, we will continue to explore sports and entertainment opportunities to bring to our property for the community to enjoy ― such as the ‘Gift of Lights’ drive-thru event set for this holiday season.”
