Last month, Steep Canyon Rangers released their studio album Out In The Open featuring a cover of Bob Dylan’s “Let Me Die In My Footsteps.” JamBase is pleased to exclusively premiere professionally-shot video footage the band performing the song live in Boulder, Colorado.

Steep Canyon Rangers included a rendition of Dylan’s “Let Me Die In My Footsteps” during their recent performance at Chautauqua Auditorium. The song was among 12 recorded on the Joe Henry-produced Out In The Open.

“When going back and listening Dylan’s Bootleg series a few months before the recording session,” guitarist Woody Platt revealed, “I was struck by the timeless message of ‘Let Me Die In My Footsteps’ and got excited to try it with multiple voices in our style. It turned to be a perfect last minute addition to the record.”

Written by Dylan, the legendary singer-songwriter first recorded “Let Me Die In My Footsteps” with producer John Hammond at CBS Studios in New York City in April 1962. Originally intended for inclusion on the 1963 LP The Freewheelin’ Bob Dylan, the recording ultimately was issued as part of the 1991 archival release The Bootleg Series Volumes 1-3 (Rare & Unreleased) 1961-1991.
