Exclusive Premiere: Holly Bowling Throws CSNY & Cat Stevens Covers Into Usual Phish & Dead Mix

Pianist Holly Bowling recently completed a Spring Tour with a performance at Woodlands Tavern in Columbus, Ohio on May 16th that saw her work covers by other bands into her usual mix of Phish and Grateful Dead interpretations. Bowling has just added three upcoming shows to her touring itinerary and in honor of the announcements we’re pleased to premiere stellar, multi-cam footage of Holly’s entire first set from Columbus.

The first of the three newly-added shows is a free performance at The Montgomery Auditorium within The Free Library of Philadelphia in Philadelphia on June 29. Holly’s gig will take place between 2 and 4 p.m. ahead of Phish’s performance at The Mann. Head here to register for free tickets. Bowling will also team with Phish tribute act Runaway Gin for two installments of The Phall Grand Ball in South Carolina this September. The two acts will play a total of three sets each night with the Charleston Music Hall in Charleston hosting the festivities on Friday, September 9 and the Music Farm in Columbia hosting the action on Saturday, September 10.

As mentioned, we’re excited to premiere incredible video of Holly’s first set from Columbus. She starts the set with Phish classics “Taste” and “The Curtain With” before turning her attention to the Dead’s famed “Help On The Way” > “Slipknot!” pairing. Instead of “Franklin’s,” Bowling lands on “Free” which she follows with a beautiful rendition of Cat Stevens’ “Wild World.” From there, the pianist tackles “Dark Star” and we get to see her play the inside of the piano during the unusual version of the Dead tune. Holly tips her hat to the state where she was performing by covering CSNY’s “Ohio” out of “Dark Star” and then ends the set with “The Squirming Coil.”
