Elton John and Brandi Carlile previewed their upcoming collaborative album, Who Believes In Angels?, as part of a celebratory concert held last night at the London Palladium. The performance was recorded for a special show that will premiere on CBS and Paramount+ on Sunday, April 6.

Backing John and Carlile was a band composed of Who Believes In Angels contributors including producer Andrew Watt on guitar, Chad Smith (Red Hot Chili Peppers) on drums and Josh Klinghoffer on keyboards. Carlile’s twin bandmates, bassist Phil Hanseroth and guitarist Tim Hanseroth, were also part of the band.

John and Carlile offered four songs from Who Believes In Angels, which will be released on Friday, April 4. The pair played the Who Believes In Angels title track, the single “Swing For The Fences,” and “Little Richard’s Bible” and “You Without Me.”

The setlist was filled in with several of John’s noteworthy hits. He went solo on piano for “Tiny Dancer” and was joined by Carlile on “Don’t Let the Sun Go Down on Me,” “I Guess That’s Why They Call It the Blues,” “Your Song,” “Bennie and the Jets” and “I’m Still Standing.” Those were played alongside Carlile’s standouts “The Story” and “The Joke.”

Carlile and John also dueted on covers of Patsy Cline’s “Crazy” and Jim Reeves’ “He’ll Have to Go.” The event included the two musicians participating in a Q&A session with actor Dan Levy as well.
