Elton John apparently tapped friend and collaborator Brandi Carlile for a new album, as reported by Stereogum. The music publication pointed to a Clash interview with Elton’s friend and fellow British rock legend, The Who’s Pete Townshend, as the source of the report.

Elton John wrapped his massive Farewell Yellow Brick Road excursion in 2023 before giving up touring. In the Clash interview, Townshend alluded to John’s searching for another project.

“Elton is so fraught with loss at not knowing what to do next,” Townshend told Clash. “He’s just gone over to L.A. to make an album with Brandi Carlile. They made an album together in two weeks. He says it’s one of the best things they’ve ever done.”

Additionally, Elton teased a new album while inducting longtime composing partner lyricist Bernie Taupin into the Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame in November 2023.

“We’ve just finished an album in Los Angeles, which is going to surprise the shit out of you,” John said. “And it’s absolutely wonderful, and it’s full of youth, and it’s full of vitality. It’s a wonderful place to be after we’ve been together for 56 years.”

Elton John released his last studio album of new original material, Wonderful Crazy Night, in 2016.
