Eggy brought out moe. bassist Rob Derhak for a guest appearance on Saturday night in Portland, Maine. The longtime Maine resident led the quartet through the moe. classic “Happy Hour Hero” to end their first set at the State Theatre.
The Connecticut-based four-piece devoted the first half-hour of the show to a run connecting “Atomic Age,” “You,” “Bloomlight” and “Balls Of Yarn.” Eggy then offered their second performance of “Soak Up The Sun,” a Sheryl Crow cover they debuted a week earlier during the band’s Purim concert in Toronto. “Soak Up The Sun” bled into “Lost And Found.”

Keyboardist Dani Battat addressed the crowd ahead of the set closer. “We just announced a tour with one of our favorite bands, the band moe. As it just so happens our friend Rob is here tonight and we’d like to bring him out to play some music with us,” Battat said in introducing Derhak. Eggy will hit the road for a tour with moe. in August.
Rob Derhak stood in for bassist Mike Goodman on the Eggy debut of “Happy Hour Hero.” Derhak handled lead vocals and held down the bottom end on the moe. staple, which featured a fiery solo from guitarist Jake Brownstein and saw Rob throw in a lyrical reference to Eggy.

Eggy kicked off their second set in Portland with the recently debuted original “Trixieville.” The quartet then broke out “Way Of The Rain,” which was last played 613 shows prior on April 10, 2014, according to The Carton. Fan-favorite “Sweat Equity” and a cover of Paul Simon’s “50 Ways To Leave Your Lover” formed the rest of the well-jammed, four-song closing stanza.
For the encore, the band went with “Shatter,” which like “Trixieville” was debuted last month. Eggy returns to the road on April 4 to resume their Here And How Tour with an appearance at My Morning Jacket’s One Big Holiday destination event in Miramar Beach, Florida.
