Pearl Jam frontman Eddie Vedder performed last night at the Beacon Theatre in New York City as part of the Concert Across America To End Gun Violence. Vedder joined an impressive roster of performers for the Beacon concert that included Jackson Browne, Rosanne Cash, Marc Cohn and Vy Higginsen’s Gospel Choir Of Harlem. Vedder wound up playing a short set filled with covers towards the end of Sunday’s concert.
Jackson Browne introduced Eddie, who began his set with a cover of Bob Dylan’s “Masters Of War” after talking about the growing desensitization towards gun violence. On Saturday, Vedder performed with Yusuf/Cat Stevens as part of the Global Citizen Festival in nearby Central Park. On Sunday, Eddie treated the Beacon crowd to a cover of Stevens’ “Don’t Be Shy.” Vedder ended his set with takes on Little Steven’s “I Am A Patriot” and Patti Smith’s “People Have The Power.”
The Beacon Theatre was one of 250 venues across the United States that hosted over 1,000 artists yesterday, the congressionally-designated date to remember murder victims. The aim is to mobilize to make the country’s epidemic of gun violence a voting issue in the November elections. Visit ConcertAcrossAmerica.org for more information.
