Eagles Dust Off Bluesy Holiday Classic At Las Vegas Sphere

The Eagles kicked off the December portion of their now-32-date Las Vegas Sphere residency over the weekend. The legendary rock band changed up their setlist to celebrate the holiday season.

Since kicking off the run in September, the Eagles have filled their Sphere residency with classics. Songs from the band’s hit-filled catalog performed at the state-of-the-art venue include opener “Hotel California” alongside “One of These Nights,” “Lyin’ Eyes,” “Witchy Woman,” “Tequila Sunrise” and set closer “Life in the Fast Lane.”

The band has also included solo hits from individual members in Joe Walsh’s “Life’s Been Good” and Don Henley’s “The Boys of Summer.”

The encore has consisted of more fan favorites including “Take It Easy,” Walsh’s “Rocky Mountain Way,” “Desperado” and “Heartache Tonight.” On Friday, the Eagles added a bonus song for the holiday season, “Please Come Home for Christmas.” The Eagles last played the holiday classic in 2018, as per SetlistFM stats.

“Please Come Home for Christmas” was originally written and recorded by blues pianist Charles Brown, who had a hit with the song in 1961. The Eagles clocked a hit with “Please Come Home for Christmas” in 1978. The band’s single marked the first Christmas song to crack the Top 20 on the Billboard 100 chart since Roy Orbison’s “Pretty Paper” in 1963.

At the Sphere, Henley led the band through “Please Come Home for Christmas” complete with the Eagles’ signature harmonies and a bluesy solo from touring guitarist Steuart Smith. Watch the Eagles perform “Please Come Home for Christmas” at the Sphere on Saturday below:
