Eagles officially became the fourth band to play the Las Vegas Sphere after kicking off their 20-date run at the technologically advanced venue. The legendary rockers performed the first two shows of the extensive engagement that will run through January 2025.

Eagles follow prior Sphere performers U2, Phish and Dead & Company. Before the Eagles’ run ends, electronic artist Anyma will perform a series of Sphere shows around New Year’s Eve.

The current Eagles lineup consists of founding frontman/drummer/guitarist Don Henley, along with guitarist Joe Walsh, bassist Timothy B. Schmit, guitarist Vince Gill and guitarist Deacon Frey (son of late Eagles guitarist Glenn Frey). Rounding out the band are drummer Scott F. Crago, guitarist Steuart Smith and keyboardists Michael Thompson and Will Hollis.

The setlist for the Eagles Sphere shows began with “Hotel California,” which was followed by many of the group’s other greatest hits. Beloved favorites like “One of These Nights,” “Lyin’ Eyes,” “Take It to the Limit,” “Witchy Woman,” “Tequila Sunrise” and “New Kid in Town” were among the classic Eagles songs played alongside thrilling visuals.

Near the end of the main set, Henley addressed the Sphere audience for a special two-song dedication. Henley dedicated “The Boys Of Summer” to the late Jimmy Buffett. He then spoke about JD Souther, who died last week. Souther contributed to writing several songs in the Eagles’ catalog, including “Life in the Fast Lane,” which was played in his honor.

“The Boys Of Summer” was accompanied by a visual presentation of a pair of aquatic dancers. Closing out the set, “Life in the Fast Lane” was performed along with a video of a sports car racing down the streets of Las Vegas.

The encore began with the Eagles’ first single, the 1972 hit “Take It Easy.” Walsh was then given another showcase via his “Rocky Mountain Way,” one of a few songs from the guitarist’s solo work making the Sphere setlists. The tender “Desperado” and the Souther co-written “Heartache Tonight” were the final two songs of the night.

Eagles resume their Sphere run with shows on Friday, September 27 and Saturday, September 28. Watch videos captured at the opening weekend of the run below.
