Dweezil & Ahmet Zappa Appear With John Tesh On ‘Late Night With Conan O’Brien’

As reported, yesterday Ahmet Zappa posted an open letter to his brother Dweezil Zappa, adding another layer to their ongoing dispute over a number of issues related to Dweezil’s use of the “Zappa Plays Zappa” name and the Zappa Family Trust (ZFT) which Ahmet helps to run. The unfortunate saga between the once friendly family members exposes a rift among the brothers that formed in the months following the death of their mother and head of the ZFT Gail Zappa last year. While Dweezil will now perform as “Dweezil Zappa Plays Frank Zappa” in response to perceived threats from Ahmet and the ZFT, for Throwback Thursday, here’s a look back to happier times when the siblings were getting along.
Ahmet and Dweezil made a number of joint appearances on Late Night With Conan O’Brien back when the talk show as on NBC. The clip below comes from March 1995 and includes the brothers sitting for a panel discussion with the host as well as offering a “surprise” musical performance with fellow guest that evening John Tesh. After a silly interview with O’Brien and explaining a love for the Entertainment Tonight host and former Yanni band pianist, Tesh emerged with a keytar to play Black Sabbath’s “The Wizard” with a pajama-clad Dweezil on guitar and Ahmet handling lead vocals.
The Zappas also stuck around for Tesh’s interview, a portion of which along with the bizarre collaboration can be viewed in the clip below:
