Dumpstaphunk & Special Guests Honor Nick Daniels III With Celebration Of Life Concert At Tipitina’s

New Orleans funk band Dumpstaphunk paid tribute to bassist Nick Daniels III, with a special concert last night at Tipitina’s. Daniels died in April at age 68 after having recently been diagnosed with multiple myeloma cancer.

Daniels and Ivan Neville co-founded Dumpstaphunk in the early 2000s. The lauded NOLA-based group includes bassist Tony Hall, Ivan Neville’s cousin, guitarist Ian Neville, as well as trumpeter Ashlin Parker, drummer Deven Trusclair and trombonist Alex Wasily.

Prior to the concert’s start, Ivan Neville and others took the Tipitina’s stage to share fond memories of Daniels. A memorial video montage in tribute to Daniels was also displayed before the live music began.

“Everything we do is for Nick Daniels III,” Ivan Neville proclaimed leading up to the first notes of the night.

The stage at the storied New Orleans music club was filled throughout Dumpstaphunk’s ensuing performance with other musicians from New Orleans and beyond. The parade of guests that graced the Tipitina’s stage included former Dumpstaphunk members Nikki Glaspie and Raymond Webber.

Additional participants in the tribute show included Galactic’s Stanton Moore and Rob Mercurio and fellow NOLA stalwart Trombone Shorty. Additional participants from the New Orleans scene were Renard Poche, Earl Smith, Big Chief Honey Banister, Ethan Santos, Autumn Dominguez, Aurélien Barnes, Peter Murano and others.
